This Monday Night Football was a must, another division
rivalry, this time both teams are from the AFC south. The Houston Texans hosted the Tennessee Titans at Reliant Stadium.
After their awful loss against the Patriots 59-0, coach Jeff Fisher decided to move on and switched the starter quarterback. Vince Young is back and it's not a hasard if Tennessee stays on 3
straight wins. Vince Young have some physical abilities you can not ignore if you want the team to win. This guy is ranked 2nd for most yards run by a quarterback since 2006 just behind
Micheal Vick.
But Titans' quarterback is way better to throw the ball than Vick is. Young (photo below n°10) ran, during this ball game, for 73 yards in 11 attempts.
One thing is very different compared with Kerry Collins, Young is not
only capable to escape pressure with his legs but he's also able to run for reaching the 1st down when he doesn't find a wide open receiver. I do believe that ex Longhorns' quarterback
needed this time of adaptation to watch and learn because everybody knows that you can't arrive straight from your college and be productive at a so demanding level as the NFL (go ask to Mark
Sanchez).
Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub put the first point on the scoreboard
by throwing a 3 yards pass to his halfback Steve Slaton to score the first touchdown of the game. Schaub (photo right n°8) threw for 305 yards, completed 25 on 39 attempts, he add 2
touchdowns.
Rookie Kenny Britt from Rutgers university scored his 1st pro career touchdown for the Titans. That was the only touchdown pass thrown by Vince Young who compiled 12/22 for a total gain of
116 but he solved many Titans' problems by runnning the football.
Texans' wide receiver Andre Johnson is unplayable for most cornerbacks, he is tall (6-3) but he's heavier than a guy like Randy Moss and much more physical.
He caught a touchdown pass on defender's head (photo below n°80).
Another Johnson did a pretty good job but for the Titans, halfback Chris Johnson who ran for 151 yards in 29 carries, his longest was for 36 yards (photo below n° 28)
He's maybe less under the spotlights than a ball carrier like Adrian Peterson but he runs in a different style. Peterson is as powerfull as he's elusive but Johnson doesn't have this power and
that's why the Titans need a guy like Lendale White to get the 1st down or the touchdown on 3rd and short. And that's exactly how White (4 yards in 2 attempts) scored the only rushing touchdown
for the Titans.
According to many NFL analysts, Titans' running back looks like a young Barry Sanders.
After that, it was another field goal contest between the two precision kickers, Kris Brown for Houston who made 1 on 5 attempted and his longest for a 26 yards distance while Rob
Bironas, for Tennessee, converted 2 on 3 attempts and allowed his team to win the game by scoring the last field of the game for a 53 yards distance (photo below n°2).
And it's on 20-17
score that the Titans reaped their 4th straight victory. A victory wich permit them two things, first of all to still believe in a wildcard playoff berth and second of all, this performance help
them to rebuild their confidence.
And who could know how this 2009 exercise will end up...
